యస్య స్మరణ మాత్రేన జన్మ సంసార బంధనాత్ |

విముచ్యతే నమస్తస్మై విష్ణవే ప్రభ విష్ణవే ||

తాత్పర్యం:

కేవలం స్మరించినంత మాత్రమే జనన మరణ సంసార బంధనములనుంచి విముక్తినిచ్చే విష్ణువుకు ఇవే మా వందనములు.

వివరణ:

మహాభారత యుద్ధం ద్వాపరయుగం చివరిలో జరిగింది. రాబోయే కలియుగంలోని పరిస్థితులను గ్రహించి వ్యాసులవారు ఒక చక్కని మార్గం సూచించారు. కలియుగంలో దైవభక్తి తగ్గిపోయి ప్రజలు సన్మార్గం విడిచి చాలా సులభంగా పక్కదార్లు పడతారు. అందుకే వ్యాసులవారు అలాంటి వారికోసమే, "నాయనలారా, మీరు మొత్తం సహస్ర నామం పఠించనక్కరలేదు. కేవలం హరినామస్మరణ చేయండి చాలు" అన్నారు. నిరంతరం ఆ దేవుడిని స్మరిస్తే చాలు. మనస్సు నిలకడగా వుంటుంది. నిశ్చలమైన మనస్సు ఎప్పుడూ సన్మార్గంలోనే నడుస్తుంది.

Vimuchyathe namasthasmai Vishnave prabha Vishnave ||

Meaning:

My salutations to the superior Vishnu. by merely thinking of Him, we can free ourselves from the cycle of life-and-death. My salutations to the all-powerful Vishnu.

Explanation:

Mahabharatha war was fought almost towards the end of Dwaparayuga. Veda Vyasa anticipated the state of affairs in the upcoming Kaliyuga. In Kaliyuga, people would become less and less associated with spiritual aspects and could be very easily misled. For that reason Vyasa gave an easy way out and said, "just chant His name. That is enough". Chanting His name will lead to a stable mind. A stable mind is less likely to go astray.
