శ్రీ వైశంపాయన ఉవాచ (వైశంపాయనుని వ్యాఖ్య)
శ్రుత్వా ధర్మాన్ అశేషేణ పావనాని చ సర్వశ: |
యుధిష్ఠిర: శాంతనవం పునరే వాభ్యభాషిత: ||
తాత్పర్యం:
భీష్ముడు చెప్పిన అన్ని ధర్మ సూత్రములన్ని చక్కగా విని ధర్మరాజు ఇంకా తృప్తి చెందక శాంతనుని పుత్రుడితో (భీష్ముడితో) ఇలా అన్నాడు.
వివరణ:
ధర్మరాజు సకల శాస్త్రములు తెలిసిన మహాపండితుడు. అయినా పెద్దలయందు గల గౌరవముతో వ్యాసుని మరియు కృష్ణుని ఆదేశం మేరకు భీష్ముని వద్దకు వచ్చి ధర్మాన్ని, నీతిని తెలియగోరాడు. ఇక్కడ వ్యాసులవారు మనకి ఒక గొప్ప సందేశం అందించారు. మనిషి ఎంత గొప్పవాడైనా సరే, ఎంతటి పండితుడైనాసరే, తనకి అంతా తెలుసునని మాత్రం ఎప్పుడూ అనుకోకూడదు. జ్ఞానం అనంతం. మనం ఎంత వెదికితే అంతకంతకూ దొరుకుతూనే వుంటుంది. పెద్దలయందు గౌరవం, వినమ్రత అనేవి చాల గొప్ప లక్షణాలు. మనం ఎల్లప్పుడు వాటిని గుర్తించి వాటిని ఆచరిస్తూ వుండాలి.
srutvaa dharmaan aseshena paavanaanicha sarvasaha |
Yudhishtirah Saantanavam punare vaabhyabhaashitaha ||
Meaning:
After hearing all aspects of dharma that can purify one's self Yudhishtira was still unsatisfied and questioned the son of Saantanu.
Explanation:
Yudhishtira himself was a great scholar. Still, he came to Bhishma and asked him to enlighten him on all dharmas and right practices. Vyasa delivered an excellent statement here. No matter how intelligent you are, always stay thirsty for knowledge. Knowledge is like an endless treasure. You will reap rich rewards as long as you stay on the quest for knowledge. Also, humility, respecting elders and obedience are some of the most important traits that one should always practice in life.
